In my ongoing search for the elusive Definition of Love (whatever the hell that is), sometimes I'll pick up up a little snippet of it just by listening to something differently. An old song came up on my Ipod as I was getting dressed this morning, The Pretenders Stand by You:

Nothing you confess
Could make me love you less.
Yeah, that's pretty much it.

That's critical.

I actually don't mind when someone I'm involved with tries to change superficial stuff about me. It's not part of me. My hair, my clothes....all external. It's when I reveal something, something deeply personal, something that makes me vulnerable, something about my internal life, and it makes him "love me less," well, how much could he have loved me to begin with?

When you can truly say to someone that there is nothing that they can confess that will change the way you feel about them, that's the el-word. When two people can open up to each other like that without having to censor, that's fire.
